A Final Word

Over the years the physical appearance of the school has changed as has the culture in keeping with changes in society.

But amongst this change there is a certain continuity, a common thread that has influenced the character of Jesmond for the past 50 years.

Simply, it is the people that walk through the gates every day – from the first students and staff on the 17th September 1956 to those who will continue to tread that path in the decades to come, the school at Jesmond will always be a reflection of its community.

Principal Harry Nossiter was know to have said “I will not say Jesmond is the best, but I know of none better”.

From “Wide Horizons” to

“New Horizons”

its future is assured -

Jesmond, a school “High on a Hill”.
